Topic/Theme: The Science of Addiction

Description: Description: Addiction is more than a matter of willpower—it’s a complex interaction between the brain, body, and environment. This workshop dives into the science behind addiction, exploring how substances affect the brain’s reward system, decision-making, and emotional regulation. Participants will learn about the neurological pathways involved in dependence, the role of dopamine and other neurotransmitters, and how addiction can alter behavior and motivation. We’ll also discuss the hope found in neuroplasticity—the brain’s ability to heal and change through recovery. By understanding the science, attendees can better approach addiction with empathy, knowledge, and a deeper awareness of what recovery truly means.

Program Description: Through three main components: Substance Use Disorder Education, Binder Program Support, and the Human Sexuality Series; THRIVE creates an affirming environment where participants can flourish.
