Description: This session explores how colonialism has shaped, and in many cases restricted, our understanding of gender. Participants will learn how many cultures around the world have long recognized diverse gender identities, and how Western colonization imposed rigid binary norms that continue to impact us today. Through this lens, attendees will reflect on how reclaiming ancestral knowledge can empower both personal identity and community liberation.

With guidance from our guest speaker from Mt. SAC’s Pride Center, the workshop will provide historical context, personal narratives, and interactive dialogue. Participants will leave with a deeper appreciation for global gender diversity and new tools to challenge colonial ideas that still influence modern language, systems, and social expectations.

Program description: This discussion-based session explores upcoming legislation and policy shifts affecting TGI individuals at the state and national levels. Participants learn how to track bills, contact representatives, and mobilize around advocacy campaigns. You could incorporate an “Advocacy Action Hour” where attendees draft real emails or social media campaigns.

Meeting Frequency & Time: 2nd & 4th Thursdays, 4:00pm-5:30pm
